World class, sustainable and delicious – we’ll drink to that!

Great wine stories start with the land. New Zealand offers young soils, dramatic landscapes − from the subtropical north to the mountainous south − and a maritime climate with long sunshine hours and nightly sea breezes. The proximity of New Zealand vineyards to the ocean has a pronounced effect on the character of our wines. Combined, these elements produce a diverse array of distinctive, high-quality wines that develop pure, intense varietal flavours.

FAQ

Q1.How do restaurants participate in the 2026 campaign?

Restaurants can register online starting 1 March 2026 through the official campaign website. The registration deadline is 18 April.

To participate, each restaurant must:

  • ・Offer at least one New Zealand wine brand and two varietals from the official campaign wine list
  • ・Promote the campaign using the provided digital assets and POSM tools

Once registered, restaurants are added to the official campaign map and the dedicated Tabelog campaign page.

Q2.What benefits do participating restaurants receive?

Restaurants enjoy several promotional and commercial advantages, including:

  • ・Visibility on the official campaign website and Tabelog campaign page
  • ・Access to POSM, digital design templates, and customer giveaways
  • ・Increased customer engagement driven by the consumer prize draw (round-trip Air New Zealand flights)
  • ・Eligibility for restaurant awards (4 metropolitan + 2 regional)
  • ・Invitation to the exclusive New Zealand wine seminar and tasting at the NZ Embassy
Q3.Is the campaign suitable for smaller restaurants or bars? Can we still be competitive?

Yes — the campaign is designed to be accessible and beneficial for venues of all sizes. In addition to overall sales awards, there are categories that adjust for seating capacity, meaning smaller venues can compete on a more level playing field. Participating restaurants also benefit from increased visibility, customer engagement through the consumer promotion, and access to campaign materials — regardless of size or sales volume. Many smaller venues in previous campaigns have successfully increased by-the-glass sales and attracted new customers through participation.

Q4.How are the restaurant award winners selected?

Restaurants compete in six award categories (four metropolitan, two regional).

Selection is based on:

  • Total eligible NZ wine bottle sales during the campaign (all regions)
  • Instagram feed posts featuring the campaign (regional awards only)
  • Adjusted sales value or volume, where applicable

Full award criteria are listed in the T&Cs on the website.

Q5.What counts as a valid Instagram post for regional restaurant awards?

For regional restaurants, bonus points are awarded for each valid Instagram feed post that:

  • ・Includes at least one of the official campaign hashtags
  • ・Tags the official campaign account @discovernew.nz on Instagram
  • ・Includes at least one eligible wine-brand hashtag
※Stories and Reels are not counted. (See the T&Cs for full requirements.)
Q6.What support materials will participating restaurants receive?
  • Official campaign table tents (the only POSM item for 2026)
  • Digital assets (Instagram templates, campaign visuals)
  • A small number of wine disc pours as giveaway gifts for customers who purchase New Zealand wine
(Note: these gifts are optional for customers, and restaurants may distribute them at their discretion.)
Q7.What results did restaurants see in last year’s campaign?

The 2025 campaign delivered strong commercial outcomes:

  • 80 restaurants participated nationwide
  • 30,000+ glasses of NZ wine served in one month
  • 20,000+ consumers reached

Many restaurants reported increased foot traffic, new customers, and stronger by-the-glass sales.

Q8.How do customers enter the draw for the New Zealand trip?

Customers who visit any participating restaurant during the campaign period can enter the draw using the entry method provided at the venue.
Guests are invited to explore New Zealand wines during their visit, but entry to the draw does not require a purchase.

Q9.What is the New Zealand Storyteller Award?

New for this year, the NZ Wine Storyteller Award celebrates individuals who share engaging and authentic content about New Zealand wine during the campaign period.

Participants are invited to post about their experiences with New Zealand wine, highlighting its quality, stories, and unique appeal. Entries will be evaluated based on creativity, storytelling, and overall presentation.

Q10.How do I participate in the NZ Wine Storyteller Award?

  • ・Be aged 20 or over
  • ・Publish posts between 15 May – 30 June 2026 featuring participating New Zealand wines
  • ・Include the hashtags #NZWineJapan and #ニュージーランドワインの魅力, tag @discovernew.nz, and mention the winery
